Sustainable and circular construction!, QEC 2023

The construction sector is moving towards circular and sustainable models. Organized around two separate sessions, this one-day event will provide an update on the tools available to project designers for prescribing circularity, and on the latest developments in eco-construction.

Date

On 31/05/23 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Location

Buildwise (anciennement CSTC), Avenue Pierre Holoffe, Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgique

Circular construction through specifications

The construction sector is taking steps to ensure that circularity concepts become an integral part of companies' day-to-day operations. In particular, this involves developing or adapting the specifications and reference framework that underpin every project. This morning session will take stock of the various tools currently available to designers, and look ahead to their necessary evolution in terms of circularity.

Program

Welcome at 8:30 a.m.

  • Circular Wallonia: an ambitious program and concrete actions (SPW - S.Loutz)

  • CCTB building specifications: a key tool for project developers (Embuild Wallonie - M. Léonard)

  • Reuse of materials: focus on CCTB clauses (Buildwise-Y.Grégoire)

  • Break

  • Overview of other reference framework tools (Buildwise-J.Vrijders)

  • Circularity of concrete: current situation and outlook (Buildwise - J.Pierard /CRIBC -G.Bister)

Eco-construction and innovation

The use of biosourced materials fits perfectly into a circular economy and eco-design approach, and offers numerous advantages. In addition to being renewable and potentially biodegradable in nature, they can also be used to temporarily store CO2 and develop local supply chains. Through a series of current projects and initiatives, this workshop will address the main challenges facing the sector, and give a voice to the players in the field who are currently present on the Walloon market, as well as to research centers. The event will also provide an opportunity to identify innovation needs and target the sector's development priorities.

Program

Welcome at 1:45 pm

  • Eco-construction: from conventional wisdom to building for the future (Eco-Construction cluster)

  • Industry trends and developments: the viewpoint of players in the field

    • Chimsco

    • Architecture & Nature Office

    • Isohemp

    • Home Eos

Pause

  • From R&D: three centers present their activities and impacts

    • Buildwise: the innovation center for the construction sector

    • Materia Nova: a technology gas pedal for responsible innovation in materials and processes

    • Centexbel: the circularity center for textiles, plastics and composites
