The European plastics strategy aims to change the way plastics products are designed, produced, used and recycled in the EU.
Europe's ambitious targets for recycling plastics and improving their circularity are today governed by constantly evolving and increasingly stringent legislation.
To meet these targets, we need to :
1. At least double recycling capacity in Europe
2. Promote and accelerate the deployment of new recycling technologies. In particular, Europe is now encouraging the deployment of chemical recycling in addition to mechanical recycling.
3. Intensify the use of recycled materials in the manufacture of new plastics.
This ambition impacts various industrial and research sectors, whose primary objectives are not always the same.
The aim of this morning's discussion is to compare visions and demonstrate the complementarities required to arrive at a viable, sustainable solution.
